Category: In Progress
I’ve been uploading photos of in-progress paintings to mlkshk.com lately, so the blog has been slacking a bit. But anyway, here’s a painting in progress this month:
Bustin’ out the paint this weekend after a lengthy hiatus. Here’s another post about a painting in progress. This time it’s for the AIGA Heart Art Auction 2011.
Part 1: The Underpainting
Part 2: The Expensive Reddening

Part 4: The Wreckening
Part 5: Goddamn Background Color
Part 6: Some Outlining
Part 7: Goddamnit The Paint Was Too Damn Watery
Part 8: Ooh, Here’s Where I Try to Inject an Olde-Style Banner into the Situation
Part 9: Added Some Higher-Contrast Color for Maximum Excellence
Part 10: NOW We’re Talkin’, Etc.
Part 11: WEIRD ORANGE ENHANCEMENT

Good God. I de-oranged the orange.
Part 13: Additional Layer of Nonsense
Part 14: Getting Closer
Part 15: Trying Not To Ruin It, Part 1
Part 16: Fixed the Background—Trying Not To Ruin It, Part 2
Here are some iterations of my Bordo Bello skateboard paintings.
This is done and DONE. And I’m pretty sure it still looks like this:
- Start out with a pretty sweet base painting
- Fill in the edges
- Now that’s a fine looking painting you’ve got there
Simply get carried away and add too much white and blue at once! Oh well, it’s all part of the painting process.
Next step: Resurrection. And then another ruining likely. And so on and so on…
Here are some abstract paintings that have been in progress for a while.
The one on the right is looking pretty sweet. The one on the left is still battling against a bit of ‘teh mehz’.
Added some additional differences between the middle and outer pieces. Added a weird blue deletion of the central head, ala the artwork for Iron Maiden’s “Can I Play with Madness”.
The situation becomes more complicated.
Painting progress keeps on and on. The darker pinks are influenced by looking too much at the great paintings of Philip Guston.
More progress on my five small abstracts:
I’ve added some red and some pink. Red’s a fine color.
Still trying to figure out what to do with the background.
Here are five very small abstract paintings in progress.
My two abstract paintings are still progressing. Pay more attention to the one on the left, as the right one is still a bit weird. I’m thinking they’ll be done soon…
